The surface water ran through a chemical process to remove the algae from the water, and the nozone was used to kill any microcystintoxins. The cleaned water then returned to the lake, and the algae waste was hauled to a disposal site.

The sampling of the algae bloom from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection on April 26,2021, tested positive for Microcystis aeruginosa, with a toxicity level of 860 parts per billion. The World Health Organization considers levels over 8 parts per billion to be the unsafe for human recreational exposure to the microcystintoxin.
